The Tolmans arrived in Dodge City from Kentucky on a scorching day in August 1952, on the 9th. They were a strange group, to put it mildly. There was her pa, an elderly man who appeared to find more solace in alcohol than anything else, and there was this attractive mountain girl, full of life and spirit. They took a piece of Kentucky with them, and their outdated ways clashed with those of our community. Dealing with their strange habits and the disruption they caused was difficult. But that’s just how life is in the West; there’s always something new to discover.
