I’ve cracked jokes about how pretentious some people can be about podcasts, but I have nothing against podcasts or their creators. I even have a few I enjoy.

With the popularity of podcasts increasing, and considering how easy they are to produce, I decided to see how many podcasts I could find based in Amarillo.

There’s a lot going on in Yellow City.

Clemente’s Corner

Clemente’s Corner is hosted by local comedian Matt Villegas. He interviews several local artists and entertainers. Definitely one to check out if you want to have a laugh and hear about some great talent in the area.

Wasteland Radio

This one is more of a radio drama set in a post-apocalyptic Amarillo; New Amarillo to be exact. There’s a big backstory, and a lot of characters to keep up with. Worth checking out if you’re into fiction podcasts.

Bomb City (Locker Room Talk)

This is a sports/variety podcast based in the area. They chat about sports, and variety is just a nice way of saying “whatever the hell is on our minds.”

Lofty Darwinism

This is a local podcast that tackles all kinds of topics. The Mandalorian seems to be a favorite topic recently. They also talk a lot about politics.

Live in West Texas

This one is all about local news, and is produced by the Amarillo Pioneer. If you’re looking for info on local topics, especially candidates in the upcoming election, this is a good one to look at.

Your Church

Almost every church in town has a podcast. If your pastor isn’t mentioning it from the pulpit, he’s falling down on the job. In fact, when I did a search for podcasts in the area, I had to weed through a lot of church podcasts to find something that wasn’t weekly sermons. Gone are the days of getting the sermon on cassette or CD after the service.

PizzaFace Podcast

If you like pizza, namely 575’s pizza, and love the restaurant; you’ll love this. The podcast features the fine folks at 575 and special guests. Check out, if for no other than reason than the name. All hail PizzaFace.

Hey Amarillo

If you haven’t heard of Hey Amarillo, you’ve been living under a rock. If it’s local info you’re looking for, this is it.

I know for a fact that there has to be several I’ve missed. If you know of one that should get added to the list (that doesn’t fall in the “Your Church” category), let me know.
